Cimarron Firearms Pistoleer: Old West Style In A Modern Sixgun

Cimarron Firearms has just introduced the Pistoleer. And I can’t wait to get my hands on one. I’ve always been fond of Single-Action Army style revolvers. This one, made to Cimarron’s exacting specifications, looks to be another winner in a long line of top-notch products from Cimarron Firearms.

Designed by Cimarron founder and CEO, Mike Harvey, the Pistoleer is produced by Cimarron’s partner, Uberti. The Pistoleer is styled on classic Old West-style revolvers but made for today’s customers.

Cimarron Firearms Pistoleers In .45 Colt

“The Pistoleer is Mike’s idea for a new line of revolvers incorporating all the best design features our customers love, such as the unique finishes and details,” said Bryce Wayt, VP of retail operations. “The 45 Colt version we have available now is just the first in this series that will eventually have more caliber and finish options.”

Pistoleer Features Safety Hammer

The Pistoleer is a true six-shooter with the modern touch of Uberti’s Fully Automatic Safety Hammer. That safety hammer features the firing pin mounted on the hammer like original revolvers of the time. However this firing pin floats freely unless the trigger is depressed. In that case a bar within the hammer locks the firing pin in place, allowing the pistol to fire. Upon releasing the trigger, the firing pin again floats freely, adding a measure of safety should you have a chamber with a live round under the hammer.

Blued Barrel And Nickel-Plated Backstrap

The Pistoleer also features a 4 ¾-inch blued barrel and receiver. The steel backstrap is nickel-plated and the hammer and trigger guard are polished for a two-tone effect. All the screws are finished in a charcoal blue. The two-piece walnut grip features a Cimarron Firearms embedded coin. The MSRP for the Pistoleer is $518.70. Get An Education From Cimarron Firearms

Those interested in firearms of the Old West can get a real education by tuning in to Mike Harvey’s series of YouTube videos, Cimarron Originals With Mike Harvey.

In these videos, the Cimarron Firearms chief shows the viewer some of the original Old West firearms in his impressive personal collection and talks about them.

Episodes posted so far include his McNelly Sharps Military Carbine; Texas Jack Omohundro’s S&W Model No. 3, 1st Model American; 1860 Fluted McCulloch Colt; Henry Nettleton Inspected Colt Cavalry Model; and a 7th Cavalry Colt Artillery Model.

Old West Originals Were Works Of Art

Original firearms from Harvey’s collection have been used to recreate Cimarron’s replicas in exacting detail. When Mike Harvey started in the importation of the replica business, he found a real lack of craftsmanship in the products.

He explains that early American firearms, from the 1800s, were finely crafted – by hand – using dozens of different files and tools to create a superior fit and finish, including much of the engraving. These early models of Colts and Winchester Harvey says were made by “artists.” What had been lost in the centuries after with the arrival of machinery and technology was the attention to detail and craftsmanship.

This S&W Model No. 3, 1st Model American once belonged to Texas Jack Omohundro.

Cimarron Firearms Insists On Exacting Specs

Not to be deterred in working with the Italian companies producing Old West replicas, Harvey brought a 1st Gen original Colt to Aldo Uberti, a gun that Mr. Uberti, until then, had never had in his possession to work from. Harvey worked with the Uberti team to develop the first Cimarron version of the Colt Cavalry model.

The relationship between Cimarron and Uberti went far beyond manufacturer and distributor. Both companies partnered to bring significant changes to the replica market to produce replicas that were almost indistinguishable from the originals.

Along the way, Harvey also decided that, unlike the competition, he would have all the internals made in the USA and supplied by Cimarron to their specifications for the replicas. As a result, the Cimarron replicas function smoothly without the stiffness or clunkiness found in other replicas. Most all of the Uberti replicas produced have been through the expertise and guidance of Mike Harvey and his unique collection of original Old West firearms.
