CZ 1012 Innovative Gas-less Shotgun

CZ’s new 1012 is using a new gasless operating system that allows the shotgun to work in a variety of situations. From upland to waterfowl and clay shooters the CZ made a flavor of 1012 for you. The gasless operating system is the heart of the CZ 1012 and requires minimal maintenance.

The 1012’s gasless spring bolt operating system is a departure from other shotguns on the market. Instead of redirecting gas from the barrel to run the action, as most gas-operated shotguns do, the 1012 uses a spring within the bolt to store energy during the shotgun’s recoil. It expends this energy a split-second later to rotate and unlock the twin lug bolt head from the barrel extension to withdraw the spent shell.

The beauty of this gasless system is that cleaning is much easier than gas guns. The gas guns that are on the market require you to clean the piston and magazine tube at regular intervals. If you don’t clean them regularly, the gun will malfunction, and the carbon build-up can become more difficult to remove.

CZ says that during testing, they ran 5,000 shells through several CZ 1012’s without a drop of oil or cleaning of any sort.

The trial results where: zero part breakage and no malfunctions. Most gas guns on the market would have failed well before that point.

The 1012 gasless system is tuned to work with just about every load on the market. CZ says it can work with low-recoil target rounds up to super-hot 3-inch magnum loads. Other shotguns have had some difficulty with switching between two radically different loads. If the 1012 can deliver on this, then it should have a place in every hunter’s safe.

Three models of the CZ 1012 feature wood furniture with finely-checkered buttstock and forend made from Turkish walnut. Two synthetic models are available with polymer furniture. All models feature a 28-inch barrel and cross-bolt safety located at the front of the trigger guard, which makes it easy to operate for left-handed shooters. The trigger guard is large to allow for the use of gloves when the temperature drops. As for capacity, the shotgun holds 4+1 shells. CZ includes five extra-long extended chokes with the 1012.

Now what is especially attractive about the CZ 1012 is the price. An MSRP of $659 on all models except the camoed Mossy Oaks Blades, which is $749. The CZ 1012 will likely street at under $600 for every model. With features like these, this is a good value for anyone looking for a new shotgun this season that requires less maintenance, allowing you to stay in the field longer.
