Safran Vectronix’s Terrapin X 8×28 rangefinder has a maximum range finding capabilities of 3280 yards, or 1.86 miles. The while Vertronix has a history of military range finders the Terrapin X was designed to serve the long-range civilian shooter. It also doesn’t cost $9,000 like the military version.
The Terrapin X features Bluetooth connectivity allowing you to connect to a dedicated mobile app (iOS and Android) that provides you with control over the Terrapin X as well as additional information like the distance between objects or the height of objects. The Terrapin also will wirelessly connect to Kestrel devices with Applied Ballistics calculators.
Now Terrapin X users can send range, inclination, and azimuth directly to the Hornady 4DOF app via Bluetooth — eliminating the need to enter that data by hand. Values are instantly updated within 4DOF, providing accurate and fast ballistic solutions.
Hornady 4DOF provides more accurate trajectories than standard ballistic calculators, even at extreme ranges. Trajectory solutions are based on the projectile drag coefficient (not ballistic coefficient), along with exact physical modeling of the projectile, it’s mass and aerodynamic properties.
“Using the Terrapin X laser rangefinder in conjunction with the 4DOF app allows the user to simply range the target and be provided an instant and accurate shooting solution,” Hornady ballistician Jayden Quinlan said. “Range, inclination, and azimuth are important inputs the user can now supply the app in one push of a button.”
The Hornady 4DOF Ballistic Calculator App is available free for download from Google Play and the Apple App Store.
Likewise, the new 4DOF connectivity is free to Terrapin X owners by simply updating to the newest firmware version (TerPin 13.01). Detailed instructions are available at https://www.terrapin-x.com/terrapin-x-fueled-by-hornady.
