Mathews VXR 2020 Bow

Mathews VXR, the lastest bow from Mathews, is new for 2020. The VXR takes technology from its target bows and adds it to the hunting line. Mathews says it is the most stable bow they have ever produced.

2020 Mathews VXR

The Mathews VXR is available in two models: a 28″ axle-to-axle version and a 31.5″ axle to axle. The 28″ is excellent as a compact hunting bow. Both bows feature a 6″ brace height. Speed is roughly the same between the two models, 344 FPS and 343 FPS, respectively. Weight is 4.4 lbs for the 28″ and 4.6 lbs for the 31.5″ model.

There is a new color option with the Ambush Green that is reminiscent of an OD or military green. Other solid colors include stone and black. In addition to the three solid colors, there are five camo patterns: Ridge Reaper Barren, Ridge Reaper Forest, Optifade Elevated II, Realtree Edge, and Optifade Subalpine.

Mathews VXR Options

The VXR has a dovetail for the UltraRest Integrate MX. This compact, micro-adjust rest was explicitly designed for Mathews bows with a dovetail mounting system for quick and easy setup while providing a secure hold. The streamlined housing allows for precision tuning with .0019 thousandths of an inch adjustment per click, both horizontally and vertically. This optional rest is available from Mathews but is not required. You can use any rest with the VXR.

Adding to the versatility of the Mathews VXR is the Crosscentric Cam with Switchweight modules, which allow you to change draw length and peak draw weight into 5-pound increments with the simple change of a mod. Available in 60,65, 70, and 75-pound peak weights, each set of mods produce an incredibly smooth draw and maximum efficiency.

The end-user can change out the cam without using a bow press. You can change the peak weights for different hunting scenarios.

The Mathews VXR is compatible with the Silent Connect System kit (SCS), which enables you to attach the Mathews bow rope and sling in the field quickly and silently. The 2020 VXR is SCS compatible with two threaded attachment points between the limbs.

The Mathews VXR has the Engage Grip that uses the Engage Side Plates, a minimalistic option to create a slim profile on the versatile Engage grip interface.

Extended Bridge Riser

The most noticeable change to the 2020 VXR is the extended bridge riser. The extended bridge riser was first offered Mathews last year on their target bows, but now it moves over to the hunting line. This more rigid design bridges throughout the entire length of the riser. This increases the bow’s rigidity and stability. The increased stiffness means better accuracy.
