PSA: ARC’TERYX Anti-Firearms?

A recent email posted by Sentinel Concepts from Arc’teryx Equipment is raising concern in the firearms community. In the email, Robynne Shannon (whose title at Arc’teryx is Professional & Corporate Sales) states that:

“Our policy has changed since you last placed an order with us, specifically in regards to the industries in which we align our brand, and the decision was made to not do business with weapons manufacturers anymore. Unfortunately, this means we are not able to proceed with your order at this time.”

Arc’teryx is a global design company based in North Vancouver, B.C. that specializes in technical high-performance outerwear and equipment. They manufacture outerwear that easily exceeds the $600 price point and is popular among hunters and outdoors enthusiasts for durability and performance. As a result, they have a strong following among firearms enthusiasts. The company also has a subdivision called LEAF. LEAF is the Law Enforcement and Armed forces division of Arc’teryx, and they manufacture the same kind of outerwear.

We have reached out to Arc’teryx for an explanation and are awaiting a response. But the email already says a lot. It seems like yet another example of a company determined to join the cancel culture targeting the firearms industry. No official statement is available from the company’s website, and they haven’t issued any press statements indicating they have changed their policy of selling to firearms manufacturers.

UPDATE: According to Soldier Systems who reported they reached out to Arc’teryx the email is genuine but does not reflect corporate policy. According to Soldier Systems, the firearm-related business is now handled by the LEAF team and provided this statement.

“The email screenshot expressing a restrictive policy on corporate sales to tactical industry business was sent out in error. It does not reflect our current policy. The customer has been notified, apologized to, and been put in touch with a representative from the Arc’teryx LEAF business unit.”

If this is the case then one side of the house was unaware of what the other is doing. If LEAF is handling the orders then it could have been directed to them instead of stating that Arc’teryx is no longer doing business with weapons manufacturers.

We are still awaiting a reply to our email to Arc’teryx.

UPDATE 6/22: The response we received from Arc’teryx.

Thank you for contacting us.

With respect to the interaction you’re inquiring about, we can confirm that the email that was sent to this customer was sent in error.

Our corporate sales program includes a small number of companies operating within the weapons manufacturing industry, and we recently added an additional internal vetting process where our LEAF team reviews these types of orders. This recent change is where the confusion occurred.

We immediately contacted the customer to apologize and put them in touch with a representative from the LEAF business unit.

We hope this helps to clarify our stance and appreciate your understanding.

Kind regards,
Mitch
