ScentLok OZ NFuse Ozone Sprayer Review

An effective hunter is an efficient one. If you can pack a single, multi-purpose tool to use before and after your hunt, you’d choose it over multiple pieces of equipment that do the same job. I am always looking out for ways to reduce my load when I’m traveling or preparing for a hunt. I don’t want to be burdened with a bunch of gadgets, and I like to save money, too. So, when I heard about ScentLok’s new OZ NFuse Ozone Sprayer – how it removes odors and kills bacteria in a convenient spray-bottle using inexpensive tap water – my ears perked up.

“Field spray,” also known as scent control spray, is the common term for the various liquid chemicals hunters use to deodorize their gear and clothing. It’s a must-have for whitetail and other big-game hunters. Field sprays work by using enzymes or other chemical formulations to attack odor-causing bacteria. Deer hunters use these as a final step in their scent-control regimen, touching up boots, bows, backpacks and other key surfaces to deodorize them and avoid alerting their quarry to the presence of humans.

ScentLok has tapped into a widely available, chemical-free, and organic way to attack odor-causing bacteria. Their OZ by ScentLok products use ozone to kill up to 99.9 percent of bacteria that cause smells you don’t want trailing you into the field. According to the company, they had the bacteria-killing properties confirmed by an accredited and independent third-party laboratory.

We tested one of the new OZ products recently, the OZ Rolling Chamber 8k duffel. It’s great if you want to carry everything you need, and the kitchen sink with you on your trip and deodorize and sanitize your whole kit in one fell swoop. It’s super-efficient and eliminates the need to find a laundromat on a long trip. Just stick your smelly socks into the duffel, turn on the ozone generator, and in minutes your socks (underwear, t-shirts, etc.) will smell clean and neutralized.

While the duffel is great for transporting clothes to camp, you also need to think about scent control the day of the hunt. ScentLok’s new OZ NFuse Sprayer is the size of your typical Windex bottle and fits easily into any bag. It uses the same ozone-generating technology as the duffel to create a portable odor-eliminator using simple tap water.

How it Works

The OZ NFuse Sprayer is a piece of engineering that I have not seen before. When you pull it out of the box just plug it in to charge up the onboard battery. The squares around the OZ button light up to let you know how much battery you have left. From there you simply unscrew the sprayer nozzle and fill it to the line with ordinary tap water. The instruction says regular cold or room temperature water.

You press the power button and watch the space-age glowing bubble show take place. It may look like someone from Star Trek is about to materialize, miniaturized, right into the sprayer bottle. But, what’s happening is that the NFuse Sprayer is injecting ozone molecules into the water using an exclusive platinum and titanium charging system. In 90 seconds, simple tap water is transformed into a powerful oxidizing cleanser.

The NFuse’s InfiniCote 360 nozzle is a brilliant and straightforward mechanism. With a light squeeze, the nozzle issues forth a fine, saturating mist that covers a generous surface area. You don’t have to squeeze the nozzle repeatedly; one full squeeze will cause the nozzle to spray for about three full seconds. This is a great feature for those with arthritis or who have difficulties with their hands. If you don’t need that much, then don’t give it a full squeeze, and it will act like a standard spray bottle. The nozzle gives you great control over the spray, and it can even be used upside down. The ozonated mist immediately goes to work, oxidizing odor molecules and destroying odor-causing bacteria.

Review

I got the sprayer a couple of months ahead of deer season, so I needed to come up with another way to test its anti-bacterial cleaning and odor-eliminating capabilities. I looked for the dirtiest, greasiest, smelliest objects in my house, and I found two perfect candidates for a trial run.

The first is my stainless-steel kitchen trash can. My family of five has made a mess of its once-gleaming surface. The top was crusted with grease, dirt, and dried-on ketchup stains. This would be just the ticket.

I decided to test out the cleaning capabilities of the NFuse compared with our standard kitchen cleaner, Simple Green. We like all-natural cleaners best since we don’t want to inadvertently introduce harsh chemicals into our kids’ and pets’ diets (they put their hands/paws/mouths on everything!).

I sprayed one half of the lid with ozonated water from the NFuse Sprayer and the other half with Simple Green. I let the cleaners soak for about 30 seconds before I wiped them down with a paper towel. With the ozonated water, I had the lid gleaming in a couple of swift swipes of the paper towel. There was no residue, just a shiny reflective surface. The Simple Green required a bit more elbow grease to get the dried ketchup removed, and there was noticeable residue and some streaking as I wiped the lid. You can see the results side-by-side:

The next candidate for the sprayer was by far worse than the first: my kids’ bathroom trash can. The smell of human odors was reeking out of this small black receptacle. You can see from the photos that we have the full gamut of greasy smears, paper particles, and practically cemented-on stickers glued to the bottom of the trash can. This would be sure to test the full cleaning and deodorizing capabilities of the NFuse Sprayer.

I doused the inside of the trash can with the ozonated water and let it soak for a minute. Using gloves and a rag, I wiped the surface down for the first go. There was still a lot of greasy material in the trash can, but surprisingly, the stickers in the bottom immediately came loose and scrubbed away with ease.

Another dousing with ozonated mist and another minute to soak, and I wiped the inside of the trash can again. This second round took out all the remaining dirt and grime, save a few spots in the bottom of the trash can where the mess had accumulated against some plastic molding. However, when the water dried up, so, too, did the accumulated grime, and I was able to turn the trash can over and dump the dirt right out.

And what about the smell? There wasn’t a single whiff of a reminder of the nasty things that had once defiled the insides of this trash can. It was completely neutralized, and I happily placed it back into the kids’ bathroom. I made a mental note to get the NFuse out again when the bathroom needed its next scrub-down.

The other place that I tried out the OZ NFuse Sprayer was the BBQ grill. Since it is all-natural and doesn’t have any taste it makes sense to use it on the grill. The carbon and build-up came off easily as expected. This replaces the CitruSafe BBQ Grill Cleaner that I’m currently using.

Conclusion

The OZ NFuse Sprayer is a remarkable cleaning and deodorizing tool that has a variety of applications. You can use it to eliminate unwanted odors before and after a hunt, or in the home to clean, sanitize, and neutralize surfaces around the entire house.

Because the NFuse Sprayer delivers a renewable supply of odor-destroying spray, you will save money over the life of the unit. It replaces multiple bottles of conventional field spray and household cleaning agents. I like this fact because not only can you save money over time, but you are reducing the amount of plastic waste that ends up in the ground. Plus, the ozonated water is completely organic, so you’re not putting harsh chemicals into your environment.

So far, I’ve been impressed with the cost savings and versatility of both of the ScentLok OZ products I’ve tested, both the duffel and the NFuse Sprayer. The ozone technology in this line of products gets rid of odor-producing mold, mildew, fungus, and bacteria in your home and on your hunt. You can use these on nearly every surface imaginable, from your hunting apparel and gear to your pets’ accessories, your athletic equipment, vehicles, and yes, even your smelly trash cans. The ozone technology keeps your stuff fresh, clean, and healthy.

A final thought on the OZ NFuse Ozone Sprayer: I went through the house and added up all the products that I currently use and the cost of each one which can be replaced by the NFuse Sprayer.

  • CitruSafe BBQ Grill Cleaner – $16
  • Simple Green – $16
  • Lysol Disinfectant Spray – $6
  • Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner – $5.49
  • Dead Down Wind Evolve – $13
  • Mrs. Meyers Multi-Surface Cleaner – $13
  • Clean Shower Cleaner – $17
  • Febreze Fabric Refresher – $5

The OZ NFuse Ozone Sprayer retails for $129.99 from ScentLok. However, since it can replace several items for home and hunting, it makes a great addition to any hunter’s tool bag. I’m going to continue using it in the home and field. I see it as a product that can save a lot of time and money.
